Dreaming
Had a dream (among many) last night that I was in a children’s book shop and I was looking for a regular fiction book but I couldn’t remember what it was. The book shop was pretty full and there were a lot of people from my high school. Some who remembered me and some who didn’t. I went upstairs to see if there would anymore and in front of me was a big white and spotted rat. It...

Jealousy
Everyone knows one of those girls that is beautiful, talented, and rich. This time of year makes me thankful for what I do have, but it also reminds me of what I don’t have. I guess my sin is envy.

Kate & Leo
nicky83: Well me and Leo (DiCaprio) are very good friends. He adores my children but the problem is he spoils them rotten. I mean Mia is 4 years old and she’s a megalomaniac. She says she wants to be an actress, singer and god knows what else. And if you ask her why she thinks she can do all that she’s gonna tell you “Uncle Leo says I can” and that’s it for her. Can you imagine taking a 3 year...

Happy Sunday
yadig: i hope no one calls me today, i’m having deep relations with my book that i don’t think i’ll be able to walk away from, also giving the excuse “but guys, i’m reading,” has not been working out for me and i believe my friends are finally beginning to realize how much of a nerd i really am…

Ten Things Writers Know
the-write-idea: 1. Writing is easy. Writing well takes work. 2. It takes longer than a week to write 80,000 words. 3. Fiction means made-up. I’m not my sleuth, nor are you one of my characters. 4. Just because I’m staring into space doesn’t mean that I’m not working. 5. Characters take on lives of their own. 6. You never really get a day off. 7. Just because a writer asks the right questions...

Winter Wonderland
npr: So if George Bailey had never been born, the warm and vivacious Mary Hatch would have become a myopic spinster librarian? George is a heck of a guy, and Mary adored him from childhood, but why should she be denied love just because he didn’t exist? (And would a honky-tonk Gomorrah like Pottersville even have a library?) I prefer to think that the alternate-universe Mary would have married...

Six Powerful Words →
According to legend, Ernest Hemingway created the shortest short story ever told. While having lunch at New York City’s famous Algonquin Round Table, Hemingway bragged that he could write a captivating tale—complete with beginning, middle, and end—in only six words. His fellow writers refused to believe it, each betting $10 that he couldn’t do it. Hemingway quickly scribbled six words down on a...

Post Secrets
During intermission at my friend’s play she asked the audience to write down their secrets so that her theatre company could use them in a teaching exercise. The other day she brought the post secrets back (that I participated in) and I made a collage with them on the wall of our suite.   Some of them are funny and some of them are really sad. Even though this is an anonymous thing, I wish...

Ya’aburnee
Arabic – Both morbid and beautiful at once, this incantatory word means “You bury me,” a declaration of one’s hope that they’ll die before another person because of how difficult it would be to live without them.

Farewell to Quan Chu
Living a life filled with so many people I often wish I was alone. That I didn’t share a room or rely on my parents when I’m home from school. But then I think about my grandmother or people like Quan Chu’s wife, whose spouses have died and it makes me cold. Not just sad for them, but sad it the core of myself. To find and live a fulfilling life and then be separated seems like...

Reading List
I just finished reading Maus and Maus II by Art Speigelman. They were both excellent graphic memoirs of his father’s experience in Auschwitz and Art’s own experience of living as the son of a survivor. Though it seems like a contradiction to have short a horrific tale told through comics, it really fit. Reading it was quite the experience. I don’t know if it’s just...

Winter Madness
There’s something about wind and cold in Boston that I love. Separately, wind and cold are two things I hate passionately, but in Boston, bundled in coats and scarves and mittens, I don’t mind so much. Winter and fall are the seasons when I really feel independent. So how being on your own in the cold just seems so much more real.
